Janet Jaworski, Chair
A Northern California native, Janet has lived in the City of Fairfax with her husband, Pete, for 26 years. They have a 20-year old son, Will.
Janet served on the City of Fairfax Planning Commission 2014-2020, during which time she was the Chair for two years and the Planning Commission representative to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for three years. She is a member of the Woman’s Club of Fairfax, is a Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS) for the City of Fairfax Police Department, serves on the Board of Directors of the Fairfax Renaissance Housing Corporation and is active in the community.
She received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, after which she worked at a law firm in Tysons Corner. More recently, she was a substitute teacher and mentor at Daniels Run ES.
In her free time, Janet enjoys walking on the City and regional trails, gardening, playing pickleball, swimming, photography, baking and spending time with her family and friends.

Nicholas Prosini, Treasurer
Mx. Nicholas Prosini (they/them) lives in Fairfax, VA and has 18 years of experience teaching music in public schools and is a multi-instrumentalist. Currently, they are a Music Educator in Washington, D.C. public schools. In previous years, Nicholas taught General Music and directed ensembles in central New Jersey, the public schools of New York City, and Fairfax County Public Schools. They have a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and master’s degrees from Montclair State University (Music Education) and City of New York – Hunter College in (Educational Leadership).
They have current New York State and Virginia teaching certifications in Music Education (K-12). In their free time, Nicholas loves to dance, visit the beach, volunteer in their community, and take walks around the neighborhood. On the weekend, you might find them sitting by the fire in the backyard, being a parent to 2 awesome kids, or watching reality tv.
James Hickman, Recorder
James Hickman is a Fairfax City resident, parent of three children in City schools, and longtime supporter of Fairfax City parks, trails, and recreation programs. His family has spent countless hours enjoying local parks through youth sports, playground visits, community events, and everyday outdoor activities, giving him a deep appreciation for the role parks play in bringing neighbors together and strengthening the community.
James is passionate about helping Fairfax City’s parks system thrive and remain welcoming, accessible, and impactful for residents of all ages and abilities. He is especially interested in expanding access to parks and recreation opportunities, improving park amenities, supporting inclusive programming, and helping the Foundation build strong community partnerships.
Professionally, James works as a management and financial services consultant and is a Certified Government Financial Manager. His background includes supporting complex public-sector initiatives, securing federal grant funding, and helping organizations turn ideas into well-managed, sustainable programs.
As a Director of the Fairfax City Parks Foundation, James is excited to give back to the community he loves by supporting the Foundation’s mission and helping ensure Fairfax City’s parks continue to enrich the lives of residents for generations to come.

Emilio Alonso, Board Member
Born and raised in Fairfax, VA, Emilio Alonso has a deep personal connection to the City of Fairfax. As a community leader, Emilio has dedicated much of his life to youth and community sports, coaching basketball, soccer, flag football, and serving as a coach with Special Olympics Virginia for over 15 years.
As a graduate of Georgetown University’s Master of Sports Industry Management program, and the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, Emilio brings more than 20 years of experience in operations, financial oversight, and organizational leadership through his experience in the real estate title industry.
Emilio is proud to be one of the first Directors of the Board appointed to the Fairfax City Parks Foundation Inc, where he helps advance the Foundation’s mission through strategic leadership, community engagement, and a deep understanding of the city he calls home. He is passionate about his role in shaping inclusive, accessible spaces for youth and families while strengthening the City of Fairfax’s parks and recreational resources and programs and ensuring that they continue to enrich lives for generations to come.
Staff & Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Representatives
Sarah Ross, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chair
Sarah Ross is a nearly life-long resident of Fairfax City and graduate of the City schools. She and her husband are parents to two daughters, and they love spending time in the City parks, especially Van Dyck!, walking the trails, and enjoying events programs. Since 2016, Sarah has devoted her time to volunteering on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, serving as board chair since 2020. She is a passionate advocate for the City parks and recreation facilities and programming, and was instrumental in the development of the Parks Foundation.
As a member of PRAB, Sarah has consistently advocated for dedicated funding for parks and recreation, open space preservation, and environmental sustainability. Sarah previously served on the Green Acres Feasibility Study committee from 2015-2016, and served as a PRAB representative to the George Snyder Trail Advisory Group and the Van Dyck Master Plan Advisory Group.
Professionally, Sarah is a transportation and land use planning consultant, with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bryn Mawr College (2005), a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan (2008) and a Certificate of Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics from George Mason University (2010). In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, gardening, and pursuing arts and crafts such as knitting and flameworking glass.

Stacey Sommerfield,
Parks and Recreation Director
Stacey Sommerfield serves as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department, where she leads the planning, development, and management of the city’s parks, programs, and community services.
Originally from Montana, Stacey spent summers outdoors in the park or at the City Pool, cementing a lifelong love of Parks and Recreation.

Katie MacCammon,
Department Staff Representative
Katie MacCammon serves as the Recreation Manager of Youth Programming and Manager of the Sherwood Center for the City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department. She also represents the department as a staff liaison to the Fairfax City Park Foundation.
A lifelong Fairfax City resident, Katie brings a strong personal connection to her work. She grew up attending City of Fairfax summer camps, playing FPYC sports, and spending her time outdoors in local parks. She is a graduate of Fairfax High School and is passionate about creating those same meaningful experiences for today’s youth and families.
In her role, Katie oversees youth programs and summer camps, and manages operations at the Sherwood Center, helping to provide welcoming spaces and engaging opportunities for the community. She also supports the department’s marketing and communications efforts, helping share the impact of parks and recreation across Fairfax City.
Katie is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and is actively involved in the profession at both the state and national levels. She has been recognized as a National Recreation and Park Society 30 Under 30 honoree and is a recipient of both state and national young professional awards, highlighting her leadership and impact in parks and recreation.
